About Dave Phillips

S. Davis (Dave) Phillips was the United States Ambassador to Estonia and the Secretary of Commerce for the state of North Carolina. Despite facing numerous physical challenges early in life, Dave turned those obstacles into opportunities and approaches each day with courage and determination. It is this same attitude that has led him to many places throughout the world and allowed him to work with national and international leaders. He is the recipient of many awards, but his most treasured is the Choate Seal, which was first given to John F. Kennedy. A major investor in shaping the International Furniture Market that brings 80,000 visitors to High Point twice a year, Dave’s business acumen resulted in three of his companies being sold on the NYSE. His attitude led him to make a beneficial difference in the city, state, national, and international sphere. Today, he lives in North Carolina, where he is an admired leader and successful businessman.

About the Author, Mary Bogest

Mary Bogest grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. Mary and her late husband, Stanley, started out working in the motion picture industry in New York. Mary now has a popular newspaper column, “About Town,” that is featured every Sunday in The High Point Enterprise. She has received innumerable awards, honors, and honorary civic memberships for her writing highlighting community needs, events, and eminent and extraordinary individuals. She is also a prominent artist and resides in North Carolina with her two dogs, Juliette and Josie.
